they're oceans away, and many time zones away Singaporeans living and studying abroad but they still call Singapore; HOME
what a way to put it/ this songggg totally makeess me miss home so much! not in the homesick-ish way, but in the way that i really wish this was really my last sem alr, that i could go back to mummy and daddy and the whole family. although deep down inside sgp has changed so much that its not really the sgp that i know anymore! but kit chan, singing home really really really really makes us feel as if sgp's the same, like it hasnt even change since the last ndp she sang this. as if the sgp we left behind's waiting for us, and that sgp is still waiting for us! surely, this song tugs at everyone's heart's string! makes me feel a teeny bit sad that sgp isnt the sgp i grew up in anymore ):
but for what its worth, my bestest memories are all from this land we call home!
i actually feel like i can hear the whole crowd singing along with her!
whenever i am feeling low i look around me and i know there's a place that will stay within me whever i choose to go
i remember that particular low feeling! this was winter, `07 one day after school, when we were in perth. graby dreyest and i were shivering cold, and it was RAINING. we had to stand on the bus stop seats because it was slightly flooding and the bus stop was just a metal shelter! the bus was late again, and we were super super sian waiting for it cos i think we alr waited more than half an hour in the cold! it was close to national day and grabs was just talking abt how if we were back home, this wouldnt be happening to us because our parents would be there to ensure we would be picked up right after school, or that the buses would be so efficient that we didnt have to rely on one per hour! there we 3 were singing home in the rain, and we really sang our hearts out cos we really desired to go home, and were really miserable under that shelter feeling cold, wet and gloomy ):
but i dunno; Singapore's to precious.
smth straits times said 'Eyes grew moist and hearts swelled with love and pride as Singaporeans joined Kit Chan in singing the song considered by most as one of the finest odes to the nation.' can totally imagine robinbobin saying it. makes me laugh real loud actually (: 17 years in my beloved hometown's really worth a lifetime of memories (:
i learned how to swim, jump, run, poo, eat, sing, talk, all in the heartlands of sgp! i made my first friends, first best friend, first crush, first plant, first bowl of rice all in sgp. hdb flats make me nostalgic. bakchormee makes me beam, taxis take one hour off our lateness ( OUR OKAY = not just me, mummy, hahahhahahaa! :X sorry! ) simpang provides us joy! and neighbors make us skinny (also, only if urs is wonny)!
there are many things abt singapore that i love and cherish! i love it i grew up there. i dont like that sgp's getting far to crowded for all our own good, and i stand by my theory that the earth wasnt meant to be dug four levels underground, and have people happily prancing around underneath. soon it'd be 10 feet under, or a gazillion, i dont do maths. hurhur. srsly, minus the CONSTANT crowds, ++ the hordes of people that make shopping feel like a stampede, ++ the cues, the lines, the jampack walk ways, jammed up roads, no-space-to-walk trafficlight crossings, i love sgp <3 !
